People always ask, “when’s your next race?” and right now, I gleefully tell them that it’s not til mid-September.
But it’s not quiet at Team Drea HQ – not by a long shot.
So here are the events coming up this fall that I would love YOU to attend, spectate, volunteer, spread the word about, or race with me so we can continue in our mission to make something positive and meaningful out of the beast that is ALS.
Giving Grill at Wind Down Wednesday – Cary, NC | FB event
Wednesday, August 30, 6-9pm | Seeking a few volunteers to help with the booth from 4-9pm…
Waverly Place’s last summer concert features the beach music of The Embers. The Team Drea Foundation will be there selling hot dogs, hamburgers, etc donated by Whole Foods-Cary – which means 100% of money raised will go to ALS research.
Rock ‘n Roll Philly Half Marathon (& 5k) – Philadelphia, PA
Sunday, September 17th
It took over a year to get permission to pedal myself instead of being pushed in this race…but thanks to Angel-from-Augie’s-Quest’s persistence, it’s happening. Excited to race alongside others with ALS on the course where I ran my first half marathon.
And, oh lawdy, here goes October…
Historic Hillsborough Half (& 5k) – Hillsborough, NC
Sunday, October 1st
I rode on this course recently and it is GORGEOUS — winding through the woods, crisscrossing over the Eno River, with one lap around the old Occoneechee Speedway, AND thanks to the Hillsborough Running Club, the race benefits the Team Drea Foundation!
Ramblin’ Rose Chapel Hill women’s triathlon – Chapel Hill, NC
Sunday, October 8th
Trying again to beat last year’s time, though I could never top the extraordinary, transformative experience of 2014. Whether it’s your first triathlon or fiftieth, there’s something so special about this race – the support, the camaraderie of women. We’ll have a whole mess of Team Drea members out there.
Art for ALS fundraiser – Columbus, OH | FB event
Saturday, October 14th, 6-9pm
This cocktail party is going to be a uniquely amazing night at the Columbus Museum of Art. I’m most excited about our silent auction of donated art, featuring many pieces by Davidson alumni. Our private access to the first floor galleries will also include a fun scavenger hunt to explore the art. Endless thanks to Ann Roper Bowen for co-organizing this event with me.
Columbus Marathon (& half) – Columbus, OH
Sunday, October 15th
Day after the Art for ALS fundraiser? Um, yep…but SO excited to do this race with Team Drea Columbus and other friends in the Midwest we don’t get to see often enough!
Peets –> SFO
Wednesday, October 18th – Tuesday, October 24th
In the middle of our crazy October, we’re going to CA to see some of our friends affected by ALS and other friends out there. Sarah, Reiches, Teagues, Jessica, Daniella…we want to see you!
Cary Cornhole Classic – Cary, NC | FB link
Sunday, October 29th
The Team Drea Foundation is hosting a cornhole tournament – 32 teams battling it out to see who will take home the first-ever Cary Cornhole Classic trophy! You’ll be hearing a LOT more about this, but we’re looking for companies to sponsor teams ($100), courts ($250), or tents ($400) at the event/ We also need a lot of volunteers, so let me know if you can help out!
City of Oaks (marathon, half, relay, 10k, 5k) – Raleigh, NC
Sunday, November 5th
I’m sad not to be doing the marathon again (though I won’t miss those hills!), but I still plan to do some part of this race since the Team Drea HPW folks will be running…and it gives me race #11 for the year 🙂
RDC Marathon (& half, 5k) – Durham, NC
Saturday, November 11th – 5k & Team Drea PARTY!
Sunday, November 12th – marathon (& half)
This is the grand finale to Team Drea’s year. From the gorgeous medals to the fact that our foundation is the charity partnership to the fact that our annual Team Drea party will take place after the 5k on Saturday…if you’re thinking about coming into town for just one Team Drea event this year, this should be the one.

So that’s all we’re up to 🙂
I know that’s a lot to digest, but think about it and if you can race, spectate, volunteer, or donate, I would be grateful. I AM grateful for all the support you have given DP and me, and our foundation. I believe we’ve created something really special here…and the best is yet to come!
